Desperate Housewives – Episode 6-12 Review

The aftermath of the plane crash is taking a toll on the housewives’ lives. For some there is a more comedic result, while for others it looks like they will be dealing with some things for more than one episode. Expect some great acting by Felicity Huffman and by Teri Hatcher expect a…………strip dance !

This week’s episode was about stripping. Anyone else exited? While the theme applied in the literal sense to Susan, for the other three wives it had a more metaphorical meaning.

Susan’s story (along with Gaby’s) provided the comedy for this episode. When Susan hears that she inherited 50% of a strip club (by Karl of course) things get uncomfortable. Things get even more awkward when she realises that Mike seems to be a common visitor of this place. A very pissed Susan proves Mike a point by posing as “Miss fix-it” and giving him a taste of his own medicine. Teri Hatcher, seemed like a pro (she even climbed the pole upside down).

In Bree’s story, Orson was facing trouble since his legs are now paralysed. Bree, like the good Christian she is, attempted to take care of Orson although he wasn’t that thrilled with the idea. Orson was, well…pissed because Bree debased herself by having an affair with Karl. While Orson initially tried to stay at Mrs. McCluskey’s, Bree made sure he didn’t. Orson then, decided to give Bree a hard time in a different way. He basically acted like a spoiled little kid since he knew that Bree had to take care of him due to her religion and how strong she (usually) is on moral behaviour. Taking care of Orson would be Bree’s way to be forgiven for what she did with Karl. I really want to see how this story plays out because Bree is always interesting when she faces moral dilemmas like that.

As far as Gaby storyline is concerned, it looks like the writers decided to deal with ethnicity. When Juanita was being interviewed to enter a private school the principal mentioned about her being of Mexican decent and Juanita seemed puzzled. Congrats to Madison De La Garza (the actress who plays Juanita) for delivering lines perfectly such as “I’m Mexican?” or “So we are like those people who sell oranges on the side of the road?”. In the end we realise that Gaby’s poverty as a child had turned her into kind of a self-loathing Mexican. This is a very rare and interesting issue to approach and it is dealt very carefully while at the same time it has some comedic situations as a result.

E! Talks Madison!

The best part of the story line, though, was Madison De La Garza, the little actress who plays Juanita Solis. She's been a hoot all season, especially through the home schooling scenes with Gaby, but tonight she was particularly downright side-splitting. ''I'm Mexican?!?'' she screamed when the administrator at Oakridge mentioned her ethnicity. ''Since when? I thought we were American!'' And she was right. But no matter, the bluntness with which she said this was too amusing. But that instance was just one in many funny moments for Juanita. I about died when — at the behest of Gaby and Carlos, in a bid to showcase Juanita's desirable ''diversity'' — the little girl creeped back to the administrator's door after leaving to give him a begrudging, ''Adios, señor!'' That's good stuff. And later, after Gaby fumed that Juanita should know she's Mexican because ''we eat Mexican food all the time,'' the sassy Juanita replied curtly: ''We eat Chinese food, too. Does that mean I'm Chinese?'' I love love love Juanita's character.
